“CREATING THE FUTURE WE WANT”
MY OWN WORLD
A future or dream cannot just walk up to you and say, “Hey! My man, I’ve come to embrace your life and be part of you”. A clear cut picture of what you would like your future to be like, how you would best appreciate to shape your dreams should be the definite prior picture that has to form in your mind. This picture must be flexible one that allows for hammering and chiselling to get to your set future. You can compare this future to a man with a set destination walking along a winding path to his destination. He could decide to take several turns provided he gets to his destination safe and sound.
You can liken the flexibility of this picture to an artist who creates a fine painting on a plain canvas sheet that formally had nothing on it, using a standard acrylic paint. He keeps blushing off, recoating at every side; squinting his eyes to get a clearer picture till he gets what admirers consider stunning, gorgeous and interesting.
Every young mind is enthusiastic about creating a future he wants and cherishes. No one wants another’s ire, we all wish and pray to be happy.
That early morning sun filtered through silky light brown blinds into my room, it caressed my eyes in a sudden surge that made me flick it open. My world reporter as I called it, beeped 7:a.m, the morning news highlights flashed through it, “153 dies in air crash, bombing in churches kills many, Syria’s tension heightens…” I felt very light like a feather on my large foamy mattress. As I said, “Thank you Jesus for this new day”, a surge of messages ran through my nerves across to my brain which interpreted it into a question that anchored my life to a dream. It presented itself, thus, “What do you wish for yourself and the world?” I just didn’t know what to think as a wish, but after rummaging through my mind, I realised that I wanted peace so much as I needed the world to consistently keep developing. It was then that my young mind felt that my contribution to obtaining a future I would want is imperative. Since I now had a dream, the next thing that perturbed my young mind was how my future, my dream could materialize. My arteries seemed to have dilated, thus pushing more blood through it and making me desperately in need of an answer, my heart thumped like a heavy piston making it’s pendulum like motion. My thought flashed through several solutions that could be offered to the incessant and indiscriminate disturbances that bedevilled my peace, world’s peace and consistent development (Peace being not the absence of war, but presence of justice and equity, continuity and love). But on sagely scrutinizing all the possible steps to achieving a future I would want, I found none as feasible as the one that am going to talk about now.
When I do the right thing and what am supposed to do, at the right time and encourage others to do theirs effectively, then my dream of peace and consistent development will not be a mirage. This is because you don’t know who could be the victim of your little neglect, no matter how minute.
Alex, a friend of mine never believed in doing things right and at the right time. This was not until he had a very harrowing experience that nearly took his life. They say experience is the best teacher, only when you live to tell of it.
Legal Instruments, mandated force and criticism cannot breed peace except for personal disposition and encouragement from already disposed peace addicts will bring about my own world into complete existence. I would gladly prescribe continuous sensitization as a means to achieving my own world. No relenting spirit ever succeeded in anything.
